Do You Know What Makes a Press Release Stand Out?

Many individuals are simply afraid to write a press release. What if it’s not written correctly? What if it’s ignored? What if it’s printed? No matter what the question, people avoid writing their own releases, thinking that there’s a deep dark mystery surround this type of communication.

You must learn to view a press release as a news item. It is NOT a sales letter. The intention is to provide the readers with information that will be of benefit to them. Do not confuse a news release with a sales promotion article. If you have something that is of benefit to members of the public, use a press release to let them know what you have available.

Save the sales copy for circulars and ads. The objective of those is to sell your product. A press release, on the other hand, lets your customers and potential customers know that your product is available and it has benefit to them.

If you treat your press release copy as an important source of information about what you have to offer, if you avoid a sales approach, your press release will stand out as important and of interest.

Let Freelance Writing Desk write a press release that will help you stand out.

Writing for the Internet

Learning to write for the internet can be a little confusing at first because it is not quite the same as most other types of writing. It requires you to change the way that you think. Let’s start with the fact that your online audience is there to read.  When your readers are online they are scanning your words at best.  Scanning is done because it is a proven fact that when you actually try to read word for word on the screen you are 25 percent slower than reading printed material. If you are wondering what this means to you as the writer, it simply means you have to learn to get people’s attention so that you can connect with them.

Make Your Writing Style Dramatic

The reader is not reading but scanning your words. The more eye-catching a form you use, the more likely they are to stay on the site long enough to read it. Try to break your writing up into segments. Keep each segment in parts of 25 or fewer words. Make sure that the main points of each segment are clearly expressed and even bulleted so that the scanners can pick out the parts that you want them to see quickly and efficiently. Bellow is an example of what your ideas and words should look like in a bulletined format. (more…)

Low Search Rankings: Time for a Change?

Some people panic when their copy is no longer in the top ten, even if it merely dropped to 11. They are just nervous about being on the second page. This is losing sight of the big picture. If the copy is still converting in the numbers it should, isn’t that the real thing? No matter how old or how low on the rankings the web site might be, the important factor remains the amount of conversions. Change for the sake of change itself can ultimately hurt that goal.

Remember that any business based on the web thrives on conversions. In light of this, search engine position is practically irrelevant. At best, search engine optimization is a good tool, but it is not the only, or even the most important, tool in the toolbox. There are a great many other things to think about to improve a website, and poor results should not automatically mean it’s time to change the copy. (more…)

Common SEO Copywriting Mistakes

SEOWhen SEO copywriting, it is important to cater to the search engines and make sure to get your page noticed.  However, there are ways writers can go about this without their articles being ignorant, poorly worded and full of typographical errors.  Catering to the search engines is important, but creating articles that are informative and readable is even more important.  The engines will bring you prospective buyers, but the content of your site will keep them there.

Make sure you choose keywords that make sense.

If your keywords are misspelled, grammatically incorrect or irrelevant to your page, they do you no good and can actually hurt your image.  Misspelled keywords make your copy look unpolished.  Irrelevant keywords will bring your site traffic, but will not keep them there.  If you do not research your own keywords, make sure you look at the entire list offered to you by the SEO professional researcher, so you can make sure to choose relevant, informative keywords that will fit into your articles without sounding forced.

Never sacrifice flow and quality for numbers.

Using chopped-up, ungrammatical phrases that just do not make logical sense in a sentence will not do any good for your website.  A phrase like “candies samples free” may be a big hit with the engines, but forcing that phrase into a sentence just makes your article look ridiculous and obnoxious, even when cleaver writers shove them in by converting the phrase, such as “If you are looking for candies samples free, here you go!”  That sounds cheesy.  Use a better key phrase, even if it means you have to use a lower ranked one.  In the end, the quality of your articles will bring in more revenue than forcing key phrases where they make no sense at all.

Change the way you use your key phrases

Using the same key phrase repeatedly in an article can raise your rankings, but it makes reading your articles monotonous.  If readers are bored by your content, they will take their business elsewhere. Keep in mind that most engines overlook common punctuation, so you can use the phrase “best hotel in Hawaii” many times in a number of ways simply by changing the punctuation.  For example, “You’ll have the most fun if you are staying in the best hotel.  In Hawaii, there are many hotels that have 5 star rankings.”  The key words are still used in order in the sentences; there is just punctuation between them.  The engine will still find these words together as a phrase, but your reader will not be bored by seeing “best hotel in Hawaii” over and over and over again in the same article.  Also, keep in mind that key words can be used in ALT tags, such as in embedded pictures, so make sure you also utilize this option for your keywords as well.  (This is a good idea to keep in mind if you want to use misspelled key phrases too, since readers will not see your spelling in an ALT tag.)

When you write quality articles, you will find that you can use lower ranked keywords that flow well in your articles and still have high search rankings.  Readers will be more likely to purchase something from you when you sound educated and knowledgeable, so keep your professionalism and your integrity and write articles that everyone will enjoy.
