If you are attending high school, college or even attempting to get a job, it is very important that your writing skills are up to par. The better you are at the writing process the better the end result of your efforts will be. Figure out what your topic will be, think about how you want to organize your paper, research the topic and remember to take a lot of organized, orderly notes.
When it comes time to choose your topic, try the cause and effect method. Find a topic that you can easily research and explain. Make sure to run the topic past a few friends to see if it is something that will be interesting to your peers. Think outside of the box; creative ideas enliven a paper.
Getting Started
The very first thing that you have to do is to get organized. Try writing an outline. This outline will keep you on track and, when submitted along with your paper, will give your reader something to follow along with. The outline will also help you with the logical introduction, main body of your paper and the conclusion. There is a basic layout that you should always follow when you are trying to write a research paper.
- Introduction
- Body
- Conclusion
The introduction tells the reader what the rest of your paper is about. It has a short statement of what the paper is about. The body of the research paper will be based on the information that the author has to support his ideas. The conclusion should sum up the paper. It should help the reader understand all of the information that the author has given them in the body portion of the paper.
Three steps to writing a college paper
- Prewriting: This is where you decide what to write about. Figure out how you will approach researching the topic and then presenting it.
- Writing: This is the step where you draft your paper. Stick with the details and lay them out on the paper.
- Rewriting: this is the step that brings the paper together. All of the editing is done and this should be the final copy.
These are the main steps to writing your paper. Keep in mind that depending on the size of the paper there are some minor steps that when added will make your writing experience go more smoothly. Understanding what you are writing about is one of the minor steps that is a must. Understand what the professor expects from your assignment before you even begin.
The level of research is another minor step. Make sure that you research your topic to the best of your ability. When you sit down to put your thoughts on paper you will be surprised how easy it comes if enough research was done.
Before handing in your paper look over it again .Is the paper in black ink? Are all the errors, sentence fragments and mistakes removed from the final copy? If the answer is yes, then read through it on more time before you hand it in for grading.
